Another Great Year for the Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors at S.W.E.A.T.
2/8/2009
On February 7, 2009 the Tulsa Juniors Rowing Club had a great day in Dallas, Texas at the S.W.E.A.T.S indoor ergometer tournament and registered its strongest showing with 30 athletes competing. It proved a quick road trip for the team as they departed Tulsa via charter bus on Friday afternoon along with the coaching staff and returned Saturday evening. Head Coach Neil Bergenroth praised his athletes’ performances at the competition and as a team during the course of the trip to Dallas, “Many of our athletes made personal bests and I am pleased with our overall team performance. While the following athletes have been mentioned specifically, I must stress that all juniors did a great job and I was really pleased to see our athletes handling their race pieces well and also handling their "downtime" very well.”
TRCJ Head Coach Bergenroth and Assistant Coach Kilburn set wonderful examples for their athletes at S.W.E.A.T.S as they “walked the walk” and won medals in their events. Coaching a group of athletes while simultaneously maintaining a rigorous training regiment in order to compete at the Master's Level in other venues are noteworthy achievements indeed!
Athletes that placed in the top three were as follows:
Lauren Griffith (1st Place - Women's Junior Novice Lightweight) 8:24
Molly Schale (2nd Place - Women's Junior Novice Lightweight) 8:32
Andrea Joyce (2nd Place - Women's Junior Novice Openweight) 7:55
Brock Turner (1st Place - Men's Junior Novice Openweight) 6:37.2 **
Coach Kilburn (1st Place - Men's Open 1x) time: 6:40
Micah Hartwell (1st Place - Men's Open Lightweights) 6:39
Coach Bergenroth (1st Place - Men's Masters 30-39) 6:34
Other notable finishes were
Molly McSweeney (4th Place - Women's Junior Novice) 8:13
Maggie Hegenbart (4th place - Women's Junior Novice Lightweight) 8:59
In addition, Michelle Sechser who also rows within the club won Women's Open Lightweight in a time of 7:20.
