Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors Finishes Season with 4th Annual Row-A-Thon

What do the Rowing Club Juniors do when there’s no water in the river?  They row on dry land.  The Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors will finish their fall season in a flurry of rowing with their 4th Annual Row-A-Thon fundraiser. Athletes in the program will use rowing machines to record as much distance as possible in an 8-hour period from 8am to 4pm on Saturday the 18th of November. The club’s fundraiser will coincide with Best Fest to support the celebration of the Oklahoma Centennial.

The goal of the day will be to raise $15,000 toward the purchase of new equipment for the team.

“We are a very competitive team in our region, and we need to provide ourselves with the best equipment possible to remain that way”, said Head Coach Neil Bergenroth.

The 36 athletes on the team will attempt to row at least 30km each over the course of the 8-hour Row-A-Thon. If everyone is successful at achieving their goals, the team will log over 1,000km on the rowing machines.

In addition to activities at the boathouse, the club will have a booth at BestFest to publicize the club’s mission and activities.

The TRC Juniors invite all of their supporters and the community at large to come and visit the rowing club during the day, cheer on the rowers and make a donation towards the purchase of new racing shells.

“I think it’s fantastic that we can be a part of the Centennial celebration and celebrate our past. At the same time, we are working towards the future of a sport that is just being established in this part of the country. It’s all in the pioneering tradition of our great state”, said Bergenroth.

The Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors have had a very successful fall season having participated in regattas in Oklahoma City, Austin, and Wichita, winning multiple times in the boys and girls junior eights.

The Tulsa Rowing club is a not-for-profit community rowing club that promotes the sport of rowing to both youth and adults alike.
